End Of The Year
Posted On 12/30/2008 13:02:53 by skyline81

General

2008 ended up a very positive year for me. I felt I've gotten a lot out of my role as an instructor, as well as my extra training. With the prospects of 2009 coming, 2008 is ending on a very optimistic note for me.

BJJ & MMA

Yesterday was the last BJJ class at my dojang. The MMA team will be moving their material in 2009 to another facility. My plan as of now is to train there at least once a week in BJJ with an occasional extra practice in either BJJ o... Read More

Why is it that in a sport (UFC, Spirit, etc, etc) where MMA and free style fighting are king you find people winning consistently with strong backgrounds and foundations in traditional focused martial arts yet the martial arts systems that were inheirently mixed are nowhere to be found.  Wrestling, Jui Jitsu, Karate, TKD (more Spirit than UFC), Judo, Muay Thai fighters have all found success where as Jeet Kun Do, Hap Ki Do, Krav Maga etc are all absent. ... Time might be an issue, since they want their hours to be slightly earlier, which might interfere with my schedule. Another factor is a fitness class I will be starting next year during the day. After... Read More

Ok! I deleted my first post because I had made a complete hash up of explaining, well, everything.

On sunday I entered a mixed martial arts competition, though it was mainly kickboxing and a few karate places, with a few MMA specific ones. Long story short I got beaten easily; completly overwhelmed, especially by the Kickboxers punches. though as I said before, they had just under a couple of stone weight advantage, more experience, and were fighting on their terms (as a side note- is th... Health and Fitness -- Strength Training (4 sets for each exercise)

My last week of power training. The next couple of weeks will most likely be improvised, until I can think of a new way I'd like to train. I did Seated Russian Twists (Rotational -- 8 reps) and Power Snatches (Explosive) on all four days. All exercises: 4 Sets, 4 Reps.

Monday
Knee Dominant (bilateral): Barbell Overhead Squat
Hor. Push (unilateral): Alt DB Chest Press
Vert. Push (bilateral): Barbell Pu... Read More
