Title: Korean Martial Arts open house
Tags: Dojang demonstration school event
Blog Entry: Saturday was our Frederick Maryland open house. We had four spaces in the parking lot at the festival in the shopping center. We set up our mats and our gear and prepared for morning and afternoon demonstrations. Thoughout the day, we had a nice crowd around us and the demo went quite well. The taekwondo demos included all belt levels, both sparring and forms. The breaking was mostly higher belts, and was quite a crowd pleaser. Master Deb broke multiple boards stacked together, Master Yeo did several speed breaks and blew the bottom out of a Sobe bottle by striking the top. Then Grandmaster Kim kicked apples off of the tips of swords held up about six and a half feet off of the ground and then broke slate, first with a palm strike, then with a side kick. The hapkido demonstrations were dynamic and exciting, and the audience was quite thrilled to see our hapkido masters and students immobilize armed opponents. They demonstrated unarmed, belt, and cane techniques. Then we had the kumdo demonstrations. We did forms, one step sparring, wooden sword sparring, and full sparring. Then I and Patrick were tasked to do the cutting demonstration. The demo went well even though the mats were dry. Afterward, we headed back to the dojang for food and fun! Daniel
