TKD ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I've been knocked down a lot. The accomplishment that I am the most proud of, is having shared the floor with my son through every step of our training. We have critiqued each other, cheered for each other, and tested for nearly every belt side by side. I have competed in a number of tournaments while we were stationed in Okinawa. There is nothing like sparring against a bunch of Marines half your age. I generally placed in both forms and sparring but the accomplishment is just walking out on the floor and showcasing your skill set.
MUSIC
Blues, Classic Rock, some rockabilly, some older country.
BOOKS
Complete Krav Maga
Muay Thai Unleashed
Kick Boxing for dummies
Martial arts over forty
I am retired USAF and have lived overseas for the last 25 years with the exception of about 18 months that I spent in Nebraska in the mid 80s. I am married to a wonderful woman that I met in Seoul while I was living in Australia. We have one 11 yr old son, James. My world revolves around my family. If you want to know what I do with my spare time, just ask the other two because I'm doing what ever they are doing.
TKD SCHOOL INFORMATION
We started with Master Eric Suan and NSMA in Okinawa. Hands down this was the best all around program that I have seen or been involved with. The Suans training and dedication to their students is only exceeded by what great people they are. Currently they are operating "Force of One School of Martial Arts" in Clovis, New Mexico.
We trained for three yrs with Grand Master Kim at Yongsan Garrison in Seoul. He is a 9th Dan who teaches each and every class. He is something of a legend here in Seoul and has been training special forces in hand to hand for the last 30 yrs. It was usually monster workout, just wait until he ties rocks to your feet for 200 leg lifts.
We also trained Muay Thai for over two years with Coach James Ruiz. Coach Ruiz is a deep, deep well of knowledge and patience. He also helped us carry the Muay Thai tools we learned into the TKD arena. Our kicks are stronger, and we have been able to bring the hands in as additional weapons. Not to mention the sparring strategies. Our Muay Thai definitely compliments our Tae Kwon Do.
Currently we are training in Kunsan Korea with GM Yun's Han Mi TKD. It is good to get back to more of the sport side of TKD and GM Yun's technique is flawless and his standards are very high. Additionally we still train Muay Thai on our own and with Coach Ruiz whenever we can make it back to Seoul.
I have not got a car yet, I am still in a rental so I have not really went driving around looking. I have looked some online, but I am trying to see if their is a school closer to where I live.
How goes it? I arrived in England on the 2nd and am still trying to get moved into a place and get everything set up. Hopfully I will be able to start looking for a school by Feb.
Thanks for sharing the videos. Always glad to meet another USAF alum. I spent 2 years at Kunsan and loved every minute. Good food, but crap beer. OB yuck haha
