I started TKD when I was 7, and a couple years later my dad started! Now we're both 2nd degrees. I've been training about 13 years and teaching about 8 years now.

A warrior of the light you have the qualities of a rock.
When it is in flat area - everything in his environment found the harmony-, it is kept stable.
The persons can construct his or her houses on what it was created, because the tempest will not destroy it.
When, on the other hand, they place it in sloping area - and the things that surround it do not demonstrate balance or respect-, he reveals his true force; it rolls towards the enemy who threatens the peace.
In this moment, the warrior is devastating, and nobody manages to detain it.
A warrior of the light thinks about the war and about the peace at the same time, and can act in agreement with the circumstances.
The warrior of the light sometimes acts as the water, and flows among the obstacles that he finds.
In certain moments, to resist means to be destroyed; then, he adapts to the circumstances.
She agrees without protesting that the stones of the way plan his course across the mountains.
In this the force of the water resides; it can never be a gully for a hammer, not hurt by a knife. The most powerful sword of the world is unable to leave a scar on , your surface.
The water of a river adapts to the most feasible way, without forgetting his lens: the sea. Fragile in his birth, slowly he is acquiring the force of other rivers that he finds. And from a certain moment, your power is total.
Yeah, I really enjoy learning Hap Ki Do, I find it very practical in terms of self defense, but I would also like to try Kumdo and boxing.
I think you'll enjoy boxing from the student view. The training is way different... much more informal. Boxing training, your first new best friend will probably be the mirror, and you'll spend a lot of rounds in front of it, working on your footwork, and maybe the jab and the cross to start, before you learn the hook and uppercut. You might notice too, a tremendous emphasis on physical balance. (Depends on how your trainer teaches.) What I've learned in boxing has really helped my martial arts, related to keeping on balance even when moving around and punching and kicking, and managing my weight shifts so that I'm always ready to send a technique at any opening that presents. If you ever decide to hunt down a boxing gym, let me know... I have some references you might want to peruse, to help you pick a good trainer and gym, as well as familiarize yourself with the terms and general curriculum.

I hope to stay in contact with my Korean friends, probably through Facebook.
That would definitely be great.

Thank you for the compliment on my sparring!
You're welcome. You did a good job.

I'm also welcome to criticism, always looking to improve.
The one thing I'd do, is go back to the video and look at that TKO. Your opponent dropped her hands, which left her wide open to the kick that ended the fight. I'd work on that in your training and be sure you don't make that same mistake. That's where I see more fighters getting racked than anywhere else, is just letting those hands drop, or leaning their head back so their chin is vulnerable for the big bomb. Hands drop... BAM... head leans back... BAM... I try to watch myself, especially on my kicks, because that's when I'm most vulnerable. Keeping my hands up reduces that vulnerability.
That's the safety end... Now as to how to win? You already know that one... find your openings and get em, make your own openings and get em, make your opponent miss and make em pay.

I hope to train more during the summer and compete in the fall. I have to choose my tournaments carefully though, they get expensive!
Yes they sure do! That's what's keeping me out of the tournaments right now. Well, that and time.

There is one that I like to go to because the tournament has a special competition for black belts called "Instructors forms" where you draw a number and do that form. It doesn't cost extra, so I like to do that tournament to get more for my money.
Have a great day!
Now that DOES sound interesting! I'm more of a forms junkie than a sparring type, (though I like sparring!). When I go to an ATA tournament, I usually do forms, sparring and weapons form... My next tournament will most likely be an open, and I'll stick with forms for that one and spend time watching the sparring so when I do decide to spar, I'll be attuned to the rules differences and all that.
